I love this man’s expression as he took break from unloading watermelons from a truck at the Arthur T. Crawford Municipal Market, Mumbai. He seems very serious… and maybe just a little bit sad.
The market, built in 1868, occupies a huge building which swarms with activity. Seemingly endless stalls house vendors who sell the most luscious looking fruits and vegetables I’ve ever seen.
Says Tara Patel on her blog, UpperCrustIndia.com, “Crawford Market is the original market of Victorian Bombay – call it one of the most enduring (and endearing) images of the British Raj.”
I have to agree. The place might be a little run down and dirty but it’s vibrant and colorful, and filled with the exotic scent of Indian spices. And the vendors are welcoming and friendly.
If you’re in Mumbai, stop in for a stroll. It’s an experience you won’t forget.
